A Hull Moment: Mark Rodgers Painting Maizecor
A familiar building, a local artist, and a quiet moment on Wincolmlee.
The easel was out. The canvas was half-filled. Traffic carried on as normal. So he stopped and took a photo. Nothing planned. Just one of those moments.
A building many people know
The Maizecor building has stood on Hull’s skyline for generations.
Most people in the city know it, even if they’ve never been inside.
In 2025, Maizecor entered administration and began winding down operations.
The site is now moving toward regeneration.
Because of that, this felt like one of the last chances to see it as it has always been.
The artist behind the easel
The painter was Mark Rodgers, a well-known Hull and East Yorkshire artist.
He has spent years painting the city and its landmarks, often working outside in public spaces.
Mark has appeared on Sky Arts’ Landscape Artist of the Year.
He is known for painting places as they are, before they change.
Seen like that, Maizecor makes perfect sense as a subject.

A familiar place, seen differently
Paul knows the Maizecor building well.
Like many people, he’s passed it hundreds of times.
But seeing it being painted made him look at it properly.
The building hadn’t changed yet, but you could feel that it soon would.
That’s what made the moment stand out.
Why we shared this
We’re a Hull company, and we notice the city changing around us every day.
Moves, clear-outs, redevelopment — it’s all part of life here.
This was just a small moment, but it felt like a good one to pause and appreciate.
With thanks to Mark Rodgers for documenting Hull through his work.
